SPF, which stands for Sender Policy Framework, is an e-mail security system, which is designed to confirm whether an e-mail message is sent by a certified server. Using SPF protection for a particular domain name will stop the forging of email addresses made with the domain. In simple words: activating this attribute for a domain makes a special record in the Domain Name System (DNS) which contains the IP addresses of the servers that are permitted to send emails from mail boxes under the domain. Once this record propagates worldwide, it exists on all the DNS servers that route the Internet traffic. Whenever an e-mail message is sent, the first DNS server it goes through tests whether it comes from an approved server. In the event it does, it's sent to the destination address, but when it doesn't originate from a server listed in the SPF record for the domain, it's discarded. In this way nobody can mask an e-mail address then make it appear as if you are distributing spam. This method is also called email spoofing.

SPF Protection in Hosting

SPF protection can be enabled for each domain name hosted in a hosting account on our cloud hosting platform with just a few mouse-clicks. The function can be found in the Emails section of our outstanding Hepsia Control Panel and what is needed to use it is to choose one of your domains from a drop-down menu and to enter the hostnames along with the IPv4 or IPv6 addresses of the e-mail servers that will be certified to send email messages from your email addresses. As an added option you can even restrict the email messages to be sent from your domain name only if it has our MX records, in other words when our servers handle the emails for it, not a third-party supplier. This feature will give you the top level of protection, but it is not applicable if only your web site is on our servers while the emails for the domain are taken care of in another place. Either way, our SPF protection service will keep your emails protected from being used for spam and scam purposes.

SPF Protection in Semi-dedicated Servers

When you host your domains in a semi-dedicated server account with us, you'll be able to take advantage of the SPF protection feature as a part of the regular set of services that you'll receive using this kind of hosting. Starting the protection involves just several easy steps inside the Hepsia Control Panel, therefore even if you've never employed this type of feature before, you won't have any problems. Using an exceptionally user-friendly interface, you'll simply have to enter the information of the mail server which will be permitted to send out messages from your email addresses - its hostname (mail.server.com) and IP address (IPv4 or IPv6). The moment the recently created record propagates, no one will be able to forge any e-mail for that particular domain name and send out email messages from a server other than the one you have typed in. This doesn't necessarily have to be our mail server, still if we manage your email messages, you are able to enable an additional level of security by picking an option that email messages can be send from addresses @your-domain.com only if the domain uses our MX records. Our tech support staff will be able to help you 24/7 if you have any kind of questions related to this service.
